BOXING world champion Joe Calzaghe put on his best Santa impression last week as he made a surprise visit to Cwmbran.
The retired undefeated super-middleweight helped deliver more than £4,000 worth of presents for Torfaen Council’s annual Santa Appeal. He presented the gifts on behalf of staff at We Fight Any Claim in Llantarnam.
Calzaghe visited the Football Factory to speak with young people in care.
He said: “We often take things for granted and then you come to places like this and see the hard work that is being done. It’s a really humbling experience.”
Torfaen County Borough Council runs the appeal to help ensure local children in care receive a present when they otherwise would not.
The boxer said: “There are children living in poverty who do not get any Christmas presents and it’s important we raise awareness.”
The seven-year-old scheme benefits around 380 children a year.
