A TRAVELLLING exhibition featuring a prehistoric flying cretaure, the Archaeopteryx, is coming to Newport.
The exhibition, developed by the Department of Geology at the National Museum Wales, centred on the Archaeopteryx, which is often thought of as the ‘missing link’ between dinosaurs and birds.
It was first described 150 years ago by the German palaeontologist Hermann von Meyer (1801-1869). Since then Archaeopteryx has been the focus of controversy surrounding the origin of birds and their links with dinosaurs. Only ten specimens and an isolated feather have ever been found, all coming from a few quarries near the Bavarian town of Solnhofen in southern Germany. The exhibition will be shown at Newport Museum and Art Gallery from today until April 5.
