THE family of missing Newbridge man Kyle Vaughan have arranged a sponsored walk and event to mark the anniversary of his disappearance.

Kyle Vaughan, 24, went missing on December 30 last year when his silver Peugeot 306 was found on the A467 between Risca and Cross Keys after a suspected collision.

Specialist search officers combed the area around Newbridge at the time using search dogs but failed to find the former Cwmcarn High School pupil.

This led to a murder inquiry being launched less than two weeks after his disappearance. Three people – two men, 27 and 25, from Blackwood, arrested on suspicion of murder, and a 15-year-old boy from Abercarn, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender – are currently on bail.

Kyle’s family are holding the event to raise awareness of his disappearance in the hope it could lead to new information.

It will be held at Newport’s Rodney Parade this Sunday, December 29, and will feature a 35-minute walk and balloon release. Those attending are asked to wear red to show they are united.

Earlier this month the family told the Argus their search was more urgent than ever as his mum, Mary, has been diagnosed with liver cancer, just two years after battling throat cancer, while husband Alan was hospitalised with angina.

“It’s making us sick,” said Mr Vaughan at the start of this month. “We just need to find Kyle. We have sat here and waited for news for almost a year. We remain positive he will be found, but we don’t know when.

“With Mary’s cancer it’s even more important to us that we find him as soon as possible. We are very sad and depressed, because of course we will not be celebrating Christmas this year.

“As Kyle has still not been found there are no presents to buy. At the end of the day, all we want is our son’s body home so we can hold a funeral. We just want to know the truth and what happened to him that night.

“All we have left is memories,” he said.

Money raised will be donated to SARA, the Severn Area Rescue Association, who helped search for Kyle.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
