THE whole of Magor Church in Wales Primary bid farewell to one of its teachers who is going to spend a year in Australia.

Pupils and teachers gave her an emotional send off on the last day of term by singing a rendition of ‘Waltzing Matilda.’

Year one teacher Nadine Phillips, who has been at the school since 1999, is job swapping with her counterpart June Muldoon in New South Wales.

Mrs Phillips, of Llanmartin, and Mrs Muldoon are taking part in a one year exchange which will see them swap jobs and homes. For Mrs Phillips it will be her second time down under, having spent a year working there with her husband in 2001.

The school’s acting deputy head, Laura Welsh, said the children gave Mrs Phillips a Magor School send off, and added:“She will be sadly missed during this time but the school is looking forward to developing global links with Australia during the exchange.”
