Newport council say roads in Newport city centre will be closed from 'around 6.30am' for the demolition.

A council spokesperson said the best public viewing area will be from the east bank riverside walk area on the Rodney Parade side.

The city centre around the John Frost Square area and riverfront area will be closed from around 6.30am to around 10am on the morning of Sunday January 12. This will include roads leading to the city centre including Heidenheim Drive, Kingsway and Uskway.

There will be very limited access to the city centre before 10am apart from emergency vehicles.

What a shame they are not blowing the whole of the city center up. It's like a ghost City anyway. More shops to be empty is it?

So they rip the chartist mural down in silence and secret; don't want to start anything over this subject please.
But when it comes to the destruction of something people want to see we get vague "around 6:30 to around 10"
They could sell tickets !!

Oh my! You sir, have missed your vocation as a stand-up comedian. For the good of the nation you must give up whatever you do now and spread your hilarity to the world. For the good of comedy you must!

How original, wasn't funny the first time someone said it and still isn't funny. Wish people would have some more pride in their city! If you don't like Newport then move.

Hope they take great care not to damage our heritage in the shape of the Chartist Mural.
Oh I forgot, the council ripped that down in October in a truly despicable bit of spite just before a public demonstation to express support for it's preservation.
Oh well bang goes democracy.
