A MAN appeared before a judge yesterday charged with holding another man captive near Newport and enslaving him for more than a decade.

Thomas Doran, 37, is accused of holding Darrell Simester against his will and forcing him into slavery between 2000 and 2013.

Doran appeared on bail before Judge Neil Bidder QC at Cardiff Crown Court.

Doran, of Shirenewton caravan site, Wentloog Road, faces a charge of kidnapping Mr Simester between August 11, 2000, and September 1, 2000.

He is also charged with conspiring to hold Mr Simester in slavery on February 1, 2013.

The defendant is also accused of false imprisonment against Mr Simester by assaulting and injuriously imprisoning him between August 11, 2000, and March 1, 2013.

Doran was granted bail at an earlier hearing on November 21.

Yesterday, Judge Bidder bailed him to a date to be fixed with conditions including he does not contact prosecution witnesses and stays at his home address.
