CLASSMATES of missing teenager Nida Naseer took to a retail park in Newport yesterday in a bid to end the mystery over her disappearance.

Coleg Gwent students were handing out leaflets to shoppers urging anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact police.

The move came as police searched near the college campus in Newport.

Miss Naseer, 18, of Pill, has not been seen since she stepped out of her house on Linton Street, Pill, to take the rubbish out on December 28, 2013. Fifteen students from her business class at Coleg Gwent’s Newport City campus joined the search effort, handing out leaflets at Newport Retail Park, Spytty.

Adam Smith, 30, sabbatical president at Coleg Gwent, said: “This has affected everyone across Coleg Gwent not just at the Newport City Campus Nida attended. We’ve had a tremendous response on social media about Nida and just wanted to raise more publicity today.

“I went into her business class and asked for volunteers - they all put their hand up. We’re trying to do as much as we can to help.”

Gwent Police yesterday searched along Nash Road between the roundabout and Meadows Road near the Coleg Gwent Newport City campus. Their search continued to Maindee where officers were searching off Corporation Road and along residential streets including Gaskell Street and Willenhall Street.

Lorreta Ncube, 17, Coleg Gwent student, said: “I first saw that she was missing on Facebook I couldn’t believe it. I would never have thought she would run away.

She added: “I sent her messages over Christmas but she didn’t reply.”

Liping Zhong, 21, said: “I thought it was a joke when Lorreta text me to say that Nida was missing. It’s not like her at all.”

“She is a very nice person. I hope she is well and hope that this helps.”

Hundreds of people have joined a Facebook group to help find Miss Naseer called ‘Find missing Nida Ul-Naseer’ which has attracted 314 ‘likes.’ Messages of support from friends and members of the public have been posted on the page along with posts from the family themselves who have pledged that they “will never give up.”

A recent post stated: “What’s pivotal to everything is the safety, well being and the successful finding of Nida.”

If anybody knows of Nida’s whereabouts they are asked to call 101 and quote log number 448 28/12/13
