A MAN who supplied anabolic steroids to people in exchange for more drugs was given a one-year conditional discharge.

Phillip Tinklin, 43, of Cwrt yr Ysgol, Risca, had used the body-building drug for many years, a court heard yesterday.

A substantial quantity of steroids were recovered from his home, prosecutor David Webster told Cardiff Crown Court.

Tinklin pleaded guilty to one count of supplying anabolic steroids between October 2011 and July 2012.

He already had eight offences recorded against him including criminal damage, public order and burglary, the court was told.

However, Tinklin had no drug offences against him and only supplied the steroids in exchange for others of equal value with no cash involved, the court heard.

Meanwhile, his co-defendant, James Broad, 34, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to one count of being concerned with the supply of anabolic steroids as part of the same criminal enterprise.

Broad had 11 offences recorded against him, including cannabis possession, and the possession of steroids with intent to supply in 2011.

He was also jailed for a year for money laundering in December 2012, Mr Webster told the court.

Judge David Williams gave Broad a six-month conditional discharge and Tinklin a 12-month conditional discharge, meaning they will not suffer sanctions if they do not commit offences for the duration of their respective sentences.

Judge Williams made no order for the forfeiture of drugs and did not impose a financial order for costs.
