Pontypool RFC has been synonymous with Pontypool Park for as long as we can remember.

So it is a real shame that the club is even considering that it may have to move from the ground it has called home for so long.

But repeated vandal attacks, and more importantly, what the club sees as a lack of support fromTorfaen council in trying to come up with a workable solution to protect the ground, are leaving the club with what it says is little option but to consider a move.

Pontypool RFC has worked hard over the past year to try to transform its performance both on and off field. And things are beginning to happen.

But the suggestion that the rugby club could be fenced off to protect it from arsonists, vandals and others who congregate there at night to take drugs and drink appear to be falling on deaf ears.

And following the latest fire, the club says its future at the site is being put in jeopardy.

We urge all of those involved to work together to come up with a solution.

Losing Pooler from the Park would be a devastating blow not just for the club, but for the town of Pontypool which benefits from its proximity to the ground.

It seems to us that this is a problem which would not be hugely difficult to solve nor would it have to be prohibitively expensive.
