A “LOVELY mother” from Crosskeys celebrated turning 100 yesterday.
Gwyneth Lewis, who was brought up on Coronation Street in Pontywaun, celebrated with friends and family at Millbrook care home in Blackwood, where she has lived since 2005.
Born Gwyneth Williams on January 16, 1914, she lived in Wattsville for most of her life, and then moved on to work in the village’s school canteen, before working in a cake factory. She married Keith Lewis, who has passed away, and they had two children, Rosalie and Bennett. She has four grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
Mrs Lewis’ eldest child, Rosalie Coleman, 74, organised the party.
She said: “Her family are here and we’ve organised some organ playing as well. She is a lovely mother.
“My mother lived in a flat in Wattsville independently until eight and a half years ago when she had a stroke.”
Remembering her dad, she added: “My father was an ambulance driver, and then a dental van driver for Monmoutshire County Council after that. I loved to go out with him in the van.”
