UPDATE: 3.26pm

GWENT Police confirmed the driver of the lorry involved in today's crash was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital as a precautionary measure and the coach driver didn't require any medical treatment.

The spokesperson confirmed the coach was carrying 54 school children and that they all were taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital as per emergency procedure and none were seriously injured.

Police were called at 11.45am this morning. One lane was temporarily closed whilst emergency services were in attendance

UPDATE: 3.10pm

The headteacher at Pentrepoeth Primary School, Mrs Anne Carlyle, confirmed the pupils involved were Year 5 students returning from swimming lessons. “Everybody’s fine. They’ve all been discharged,” she said.

UPDATE: 3.06pm

A spokeswoman for Newport council confirmed the pupils were from Pentrepoeth School in Bassaleg and they were returning from a swimming trip.

She added that it was a "minor incident" and the school "dealt with it very well".

UPDATE: 2.33pm

25 children have been taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with minor injuries, ranging from shock to bumps after the coach crash today.

Two people (ane adult and one child) were admitted on spinal boards are currently being assessed.

A further 28 other uninjured children are also at the hospital with teachers and parents and they are currently being cared for by nursing staff in a ward area.

All lanes have now re-opened on the A48 and traffic has returned to normal.

UPDATE: 12.40pm

ONE lane is blocked near J28 of the M4 after a crash involving a coach and a lorry.

The accident happened on the A48 westbound between Cardiff Road Ebbw Bridge roundabout and J28 of the M4 at Tredegar Park.

Emergency services are at the scene on the approach to the Tredegar Park roundabout.

It's about time newport put up some over head gantries on all their roundabouts ,when you have a line of vechicles on top of the markings on the which lane do you use .that's it newport cutting the cost not looking at the danger to the people again.
