A NEWPORT student has caused a storm on social media with a video of the city car-park demolition.

Nnamdi Okezie, 20, of Risca Road, Newport, created the video of the Capitol car park demolition on January 12 featuring the Miley Cyrus song, Wrecking Ball, with the aim of promoting the city.

So far the clip has had more than 2,260 views on YouTube.

The digital media student at University of South Wales, Newport, campus created the video using clips sent to him by friends and followers which he then blended with the controversial pop artist’s track for a parody effect.

The video was a hit on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, with many shares across both sites.

Mr Okezie said: “When I heard about the controlled explosion I decided to seize the opportunity to be a part of one of the key events to happen in Newport.

“I am a Newportonian and love my home town – so doing this video I found really exciting.

“It took me less than 15 minutes to create the video as well as upload it to my ChaseEverything YouTube channel, where it immediately excited my followers, who began sharing the video that features controversial former Disney star Miley Cyrus.

“I simply blended footage of the Newport car- park demolition and Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball video, to make a fun parody video of a key event in Newport’s history.

“The aim of the video was to promote the city that I love.”

Mr Okezie, who also set up a record label, Newport Records, when he was 15, a social enterprise developing talent and promoting the work of artists in and around Newport, plans to make more videos in the future.

“I see myself creating many more videos like this, though this will be when I finish my degree,” he added.

“At the moment I am building my portfolio that will benefit my future.

“I just turned 20 last week, so I am still committed to my media work and hopefully looking forward to my media career in the entertainment industry.”
