Doctor Who filming in Newport

PART of Newport was turned into a film set this evening when BBC cameras were set up in Stow Hill.

A group of people in Victorian style dress were walking up and down Victoria Place preparing for filming for the next series of BBC One’s Doctor Who at about 5.15pm.

But there was no sign of the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi.

In the meantime, a bright spotlight shone down the street as technicians prepared the scene.

Residents were told their street would be shut off and used for filming last week when letters were posted through their door.

Hannah Enell and Kyle Thomas, both second year animation students at the University of South Wales and “big fans” of the programme, said they had watched the setting up for about half an hour but that there was no sign of the show’s stars.

But Mr Thomas said: “Now I’m really pleased I can say I’ve seen it being filmed.”

Their third housemate, Will Baldemor, said he has never watched Doctor Who but that he was excited to see the set because it was the first time he had seen a film crew in action.

The new outfit for Doctor Who was revealed yesterday. Mr Capaldi will wear a dark blue Crombie coat with a red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt and Dr Martens boots.

And he was spotted with his assistant, Clara Oswald, who is played by Jenna Coleman, on Queen Street in Cardiff yesterday afternoon.

Excellent exposure for the City. However yet again the Argus print a story that is not technically correct - the residents would have been given plenty of notice and consulted upon as they have a consortium.

Victoria Place residents perhaps, but Park Square residents, who were also very much affected, got 7 days notice from BBC Wales. Which was plenty enough really.
