DETECTIVES investigating a terrifying sex attack on a woman in a Gwent town by a boy who could be as young as 14 believe he is likely to be local.
His 31-year-old victim was pounced on as she made her way home in a residential area of Abertillery on New Year's Eve.
She was shoved to the ground before the boy indecently assaulted her at the junction of Clynmawr Street and Granville Street at around 5.30pm on Sunday.
Gwent Police, who have issued an e-fit of the youth, are re-appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them. No one has been arrested.
Although police said such incidents are rare, they said this attack was causing them "concern".
The woman's ordeal could have been worse had she not bravely fought back against her assailant by clawing at his face and forcing him to flee. The woman did not require any hospital or medical treatment.
Sergeant Colin Mansfield, from Abertillery Police, said it is believed the teenager is "most likely" to be local to the town but added detectives were not ruling out the possibility he could be an outsider.
He said: "Enquiries are ongoing and we would continue to ask any witnesses to come forward with information."
Gwent Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to help them catch the attacker, who was about 5ft 5in tall.
They believe he may have scratch marks on his face from the struggle.
Detectives have also issued a detailed description of the teenager who they want to catch before he can strike again.
Her attacker is described as being aged between 14 and 17, of slim build. The boy was wearing a tracksuit style top which had white shoulders and sleeves and dark horizontal bands on the chest. He was also wearing a beanie style cap.
Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
