Can you help with photo information?

STAFF at the Newbridge Memo are appealing for information on one of the town's most famous sons.

Photographer Angus McBean snapped the likes of screen legends Audrey Hepburn and Vivien Leigh, and has been described as one of the UK's most influential photographers.

He was born and brought up in Newbridge, and lived in Abertillery before moving to London.

Biographies of the photographer, who died in 2004, say he started his photographic career taking pictures of the Welsh countryside and industrial architecture. The Newbridge memorial hall and miners institute is considered one of the most important art deco buildings in the country, and trustees are hoping there might be Angus McBean pictures they can exhibit.

They are looking for anyone with links to his family, or who might be able to help them get information on his early work.

Chairman of the Memo's board of trustees, Howard Stone, said: "It would be a very valuable thing for us to have. We are hoping someone will be able to help us."

Angus McBean's photography will be exhibited at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff between March 31 and June 3.

Call Mr Stone at the Memo on 01495 243252 if you are able to help.
