THEY will be singing of food, glorious food, at Lliswerry High School in Newport this week, as more than 100 pupils put on a production of ‘Oliver!’ at the school tomorrow and Friday evenings at 7pm.

Pupils warmed up their acting skills yesterday by performing to younger children from the school’s feeder primary schools including St Andrew’s Infants and Maindee.

Drama teacher Sally James-Williams, who has been at the school for 16 years, said there are 50 pupils in the cast and 50 backstage for this year’s performance, which follows last year’s production of ‘High School Musical’.

The last three weeks have been packed with rehearsals and children have helped with choreography and production.

The title role will be played by Harrison Smith; deputy head teacher Phil Grimes is playing Mr Bumbles; and head of key stage 3 Andrew Coughlin is playing the bad guy Bill Sykes.

Tickets are £5, or four for £16. To book, call 01633 277867.
