THE inquest into the death of a Trinant man who was found fatally injured was opened and adjourned yesterday.
Police and the ambulance service were called to a house in Trinant on Saturday January 11 at around 7.16pm.
On arrival police officers found Ian Davies, 27, wounded in the living room. They administered first aid until the arrival of the ambulance, which took him to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, where he died at 9.31pm night. He was later identified by a member of his family.
A post-mortem examination carried out at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff by Home Office pathologist Richard Jones found the preliminary cause of death was a wound to the abdomen.
Gwent Police are carrying out an on-going investigation into his death.
Paul Mapps, 26, of Marshfield Court, Trinant, was charged with the murder of Mr Davies.
