A MAN arrested on suspicion of committing an indecent assault in a Gwent town was tonight released on police bail.

Detectives are investigating after a 31-year-old woman told them she was pounced upon in Abertillery at about 5.30pm on New Year's Eve as she walked home.

They arrested a 21-year-old man from the local area last night but tonight released him on police bail pending further inquiries.

The woman tod police she was shoved to the ground before being assaulted at the junction of Clynmawr Street and Granville Street.

She said she fought back against her attacker by clawing at his face and forcing him to flee. The woman did not need medical treatment.
