CAERPHILLY council chief executive Anthony O’Sullivan and his deputy Nigel Barnett were today charged with misconduct in a public office, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed.

A third man, Daniel Perkins, has been reported for summons.

The English force was investigating the two men, who are currently suspended from their posts, after pay rises of up to 20 per cent were made to top officers at the Council.

All three are due to appear at Bristol Magistrates court at a date to be confirmed.

The misconduct is alleged to have taken place between June and October 2012.

A spokeswoman for Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “We can confirm that two senior officers have been formally charged by Avon and Somerset Police and a third officer has been reported for summons in connection with the offence of misconduct in a public office."

"We are unable to offer any further comment other than to say we continue to fully co-operate with the police with their enquiries."
