If you had to be stuck in a lift with someone, who would it be and why?

Warren Gatland – his impact on Welsh rugby has been transformational and I would be interested to hear his thoughts about leadership.

What is your biggest fear?

That the current austerity programme creates bigger divides in our society.

Do you have any superstitions?

Not really – although my grandfather died on the only day I have walked under a ladder.

If you could have one song on your iPod, what would it be and why?

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol – I just think it’s a great song

What's the most expensive thing you've bought not including your property?

A family holiday to California in 2009 – it was amazing and I want to go again.

What is the best piece of advice you've been given?

It is better to be nearly right than precisely wrong.

What's your indulgence?

Carbohydrate heaven – fried rice, chips and noodles – very unhealthy

What item could you not live without?

Any book I am reading – currently “White Heat” by Dominic Sandbrook which is a social history of the UK in the 1960s.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?

I would smile more – I try to look on the bright side but sometimes I don’t succeed.
