Caerleon salesman admits selling cars with faults

A CAR salesman from Caerleon admitted selling cars with faults he didn’t tell customers about.

David Mellen, 48, of Trinity View, pleaded guilty at the last minute before trial at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday to nine counts of engaging in an unfair commercial practice.

The Home and Motor Club Limited, trading as Caerleon Cars, also entered guilty pleas on the same counts.

Mellen insisted he never intended to mislead customers but accepted he had shown neglect and recklessness in his business practices.

He was charged with offences dating from May 2, 2010 until March 8 2012.

Customers bought cars without being told details of RAC inspection reports which may have made them reconsider the purchases.

One man, Matthew Screen, bought an MG ZR believing it had been inspected by the RAC when it had not.

Mellen also sold a Mini Cooper and a BMW to customers without meeting the “requirements of professional diligence”, the court heard.

Lee Reynolds, prosecuting for Newport City Council, said there were likely to be applications for compensation from those affected.

The case was adjourned for sentencing on March 31.

GREAT NEWS! I bought a mini cooper of them a while back. The CD player didn't work booked it in with them and when I picked the car up the CD and multiplayer was gone. They gave it to another guy to fix with out me agreeing. I waited a while as more work was being done on the car only to find that the individual fixing my multichanger after a month had SOLD it and also all of the CD's in there. No warning nothing. They are really nice when you want a car but soon turn on you if you bring it back for faults.
