OFFICERS from Gwent Police who are expert in dealing with cases of domestic abuse are helping train officers from other forces at special sessions run by the West Mercia force this week.
The sessions form part of a series of events to mark a national police focus on domestic abuse, with forces explaining what they do to protect victims of abuse and talking about the support available to victims from charities, councils, social services and probation services.
The aim is to encourage more people living with domestic abuse to seek help.
Gwent’s deputy chief constable Lorraine Bottomley, said: “We know on average, victims will suffer 35 times before they contact us. We want them, or those close to them, to understand the need to break out of abusive relationships much earlier.
“I would urge anyone suffering from domestic abuse or who knows someone who may be suffering from domestic abuse to seek the help, support and advice they need by ringing 101.”
People can also call the Wales domestic abuse helpline on 0808 80 10 800. And men experiencing domestic abuse can call the Dyn Wales helpline for free, confidential support, on 0808 801 0321.
