Appeal after rabbits and guinea pig dumped in Blackwood

RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information after two rabbits and a guinea pig were found dumped in cardboard boxes in Blackwood.

in the car park of a community centre in Caerphilly county borough.

The animals - one grey rabbit, one white rabbit and a black and white guinea pig - were found in two boxes outside Plas Mawr community centre on Sunday 9 March 2014. The boxes were labelled “rabbit” and “rabbit and guinea pig”. Following a call from a member of the public they were collected by animal collection officer (ACO) Sarah Davies who took them for a health check at the local RSPCA clinic in Merthyr Tydfil. The guinea pig was in good condition but the rabbits had a number of health problems. All of the animals are currently in the care of the RSPCA while further enquiries are carried out.

ACO Davies said: “All of these animals are friendly and are obviously used to being handled. So we would like to find out where they came from.

“People need to realise that abandoning an animal is an offence. We constantly try to get this message across to people and yet we continue to see animals being abandoned without a moment’s thought for their welfare. People must seek help if they are having difficulties looking after their pet. There is no shame in asking for help, it is the right thing to do.

“Anyone with information about where the rabbits came from should contact the RSPCA inspector information line and leave a message for me in confidence on 0300 123 8018.”
