A CANCER patient from Oakdale has modelled at a fashion show at the Wales Millennium Centre to raise money for Breast Cancer Care Cymru.

Mother-of-three Anita Hughes, 54, took part in the exhibition with other cancer sufferers from all over Wales on March 5 to prove to others with the same condition that they can look and feel great after a diagnosis.

Ms Hughes, who was joined on the catwalk by Welsh rugby star Mike Phillips for the finale, said: “I was so nervous and yet excited at the same time. I got carried away and bounced down the catwalk and had such a fun time. It was such a great honour to share the catwalk with 23 models and their stories of inspiration. It was a marvellous event and a brilliant fundraiser for Breast Cancer Care.”

Ms Hughes underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy after being told she had breast cancer in May 2011.

She added: “It was a shock to be diagnosed with cancer at the age of 52. The treatment is totally invasive and affects you both physically and mentally. But I am pleased to say that with the help of friends, family, hospital staff and Breast Cancer Care, I have overcome a huge hurdle in my life.”
