AFTER three days of competitions in dancing, Welsh music and singing, Pontypool’s Inter-schools Eisteddfod drew to a close last week.

Friday saw the final day of the competition with the Comprehensive School pupils taking to the stage, marking the end of the three day event, which took place at Pontypool Active Living Centre.

Organised by Pontypool Community Council, pupils aged six – 16, took part in Welsh language singing, music and dancing competitions during the annual festival.

The first to take to the stage were the infant competitors, which saw six Torfaen schools take part on March 25, with the junior school competition day taking place on March 27.

Categories included group recitation, solo recitation, solo singing, folk dancing, and musical composition.

Speaking on behalf of Pontypool Community Council, after the first day of the competition, Ruth Tucker, said: “Everyone is impressed with the quality of performances that the pupils presented.”

The participating schools were Pontymoile School, Ysgol Panteg, Griffithstown School, George Street School, Penygarn School, Pontnewynydd School, Padre Pio School, New Inn School, St Alban’s School, Abersychan School, and West Monmonth School.
