UNION officials have been called to meet with the manager at Uskmouth power station next week, as talks continue over the future of the plant.
The coal-fired power station in Nash, Newport is owned by Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) and ceased generating electricity at the beginning of this week, leaving some 85 employees waiting for news.
The spokesman from Unite Union said: “It was supposed to have been sold last week. There’s been no formal request from the company to meet with me until now. We’re not being told anything. The reps on site have not been kept in the loop. All they are reporting to me are rumours.”
On Monday, SSE’s managing director in generation, Paul Smith, told the Argus the company was in “advanced discussions with potential purchasers.”
Last week, SSE announced a price freeze until 2016. As part of its cost savings, a voluntary early release programme was also announced, which anticipated a reduction of around 500 jobs across the SSE group.
