THOUSANDS of photographers around the world showcased their work in Newport last week at the largest digital exhibition in the UK.

Hosted by Newport Camera Club, the Bristol International Salon show was held at the University City Campus on March 28.

The Bristol International Salon of Photography has been a leading international exhibition of photography since 1946.

It is an exhibition of digital images open to amateur and professional photographers from all over the world and encompasses all styles of photography from the traditional to the avant-garde.

The largest digital exhibition in the UK, Newport camera club have been associated with the showing of the Bristol salon since the 60s.

This year’s event saw more than 14,000 images entered across the four categories, open colour, open mono, photo travel, and nature, with just 3,400 accepted into the show.

The work of thousands of photographers from 69 different countries was shown with Gwent photographer John Cooke of the Crosskeys area scooping up a gold medal in the nature category for his work Alone in the Wood.

Judges had to select from thousands of entries to assemble a programme of just a few hundred of the best for display on the night.

Winning entries receiving a gold, silver and bronze medals for presentation to the top entries in the exhibition.
