A CHAINSAW sculptor will exhibit his work for the first time in the grounds of his family’s ancient home.

Self-taught sculptor Adam Humphreys, whose family has cared for Usk Castle for over a century, will hold his first solo exhibition next month.

Mr Humphreys will display his bespoke sculptures, which he handcrafts using a chainsaw, in the grounds of the castle.

After two solo exhibitions in Australia under his belt, the 26-year-old has attracted commissions in the UK for The National Trust.

He said:“I am really excited and proud to be exhibiting amongst the history and atmosphere of the castle ruins.”

Drawing his inspiration from natural forms and the countryside aesthetic, his works contain extraordinary movement, dynamism and expression, from soaring eagles and bounding hounds to abstract and organic pieces that focus on the wood’s natural grain.

“I have been experimenting with a few different mediums, using metal and wood to create chainsaw sculpture with a twist,” he added.

The exhibition will run between 9am and 5pm from May 4 to May 10.

There will be a live carving demonstration in the castle each day between 4pm and 5pm.
