WITH the season of chocolate just around the corner, reporter SOPHIE BROWNSON looks at the best Easter egg hunts in Gwent for the whole family to enjoy.

MANY children across Gwent will be eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Easter Bunny for a weekend of chocolate bliss.

But as the two long weeks of Easter break stretch on, many parents will be looking for a fun-filled family day out to keep their young ones entertained while keeping up the Easter spirit.

Gwent’s many Easter egg hunts will do just the trick, combining the thrill of the chase with the satisfying reward (and significant motivation) of a chocolate egg at the end.

Tredegar House is one of many places providing the Easter-themed fun.

The historic house in the heart of the city of Newport will delight both parents and children alike as they have the chance to wander around the magnificent grounds in search of clues which will lead them to their chocolate prize.

Running from today to April 27, house staff are encouraging visitors to get their Easter bonnets out and join in with their fun family activities.

As part of the Cadbury’s Easter Egg trail, children will search the grounds seeking out clues to get their Cadbury chocolate Egghead reward.

Those up for the challenge will take on an exciting exploration through the gardens to try and find the clues that will lead them to their prize, followed by some good old fashioned fun as they have the chance to take part in some Easter craft activities.

Easter trails at the house will run from 11am to 4pm and cost £2; while the house itself will be open from and 11am to 5pm from April 18 to 21.

New National Trust members who join over the Easter period will get their Easter egg trail refunded and will be entitled to take part in further Easter egg trails for free at any participating National Trust place up to and including Easter Monday.

Other Easter egg hunts include the annual Easter hunt at Dewstow Gardens and Grottoes in Monmouthshire.

The legendary hunt running throughout the Easter holidays until April 27 will see children explore the fantastic gardens on their quest to find all of the clues to see the hunt to the very end.

John Harris, managing director, said: “The kids events at the gardens have proved to be hugely popular with visitors over the last few years and not just for the children.

“They also introduce mums, dads and grandparents to the strange and unique gardens and grottoes here with many returning many times throughout the season.

“We have kids fun trails running throughout the summer and then through Hallowe’en and of course our fabulous Santa’s grotto at Christmas.”

On April 19 and 20, children will be in for a special treat as the Easter Bunny along with Little Miss Muffet will be visiting in time for Easter to meet the children and hear about their Easter wishes.

Children under 10 go free, while adults admission cost £7.
