THE Easter holidays is the perfect time to get out and get active.

From a simple swim to high rope adventures, there's plenty to choose from to keep the family entertained.

Take Mountain View Ranch on Heol Penybryn in Caerphilly for example. It offers a variety of open-air challenges for the family, ranging from pony rides to a high rope adventure.

Lily Chapman, from the centre, said: “Mountain View Ranch takes all the best bits of an adventure centre and plonks them smack bang in the middle of some of the most beautiful scenery south Wales has to offer.”

This Easter, between April 14 and April 20, there will be real Easter bunnies as well as an egg hunt at the centre for no extra charge.

In Newport, a leisurely walk around Beechwood Park will be held on Sunday, April 20, where participants will be noting down all the coloured eggs your little ones find on the way.

Bring your entry form back to the Friends of Newport's Ornamental Parks to receive a prize. Entry is £2.50 and it takes place between 12pm and 4pm.

As part of the Easter activities, Newport council is offering a free swim session for children under 17 years old and for people aged 60 or over every day of the holiday period.

If you are under 17 and have a free swim card you are able to swim for free at all Newport leisure facilities during school holidays and weekends all year round at designated times.

Your free swim card will allow you to try aqua aerobics, water polo, octopush, synchronised swimming and many more water based activities all free of charge during the school holidays. The free swim card can be downloaded from the council’s website.

For the sport-fuelled teenagers, Fairwater High School Football Academy is holding a training day event on Monday at Cwmbran Stadium.

If you are over 16 years old, you can showcase your footballing skills between 9am and 12.30pm for a chance to join the academy.

The decorated Fairwater High School Football Academy, which is affiliated with Cwmbran Celtic Football Club, is now entering its 14th year. It was established in 2001 with the help of former Wales and Newcastle striker Malcolm Allen, and was officially launched by Welsh footballing legend John Hartson.

The academy was accredited with FAW status in 2005 and competes in the English Colleges League.

For a less intense day of football, youngsters can also head down to Abertillery Sports Centre for the Football Fun Day event on Tuesday, April 15, and Tuesday, April 22, between 10am and 3pm.

It is suitable for children between eight and 12 years old, and will cost £7.50 each to take part. There are limited spaces so make sure to book early – for more information call 01495 212206.
