Teresa Berry, who lives on Chepstow Road, tended to the man before the ambulance crew arrived to take him to hospital.
She said a taxi van collided with the man on the corner of Kensington Place to the road outside her house.
She said the accidents on the road happen frequently and that there was a collision just last week.
Kirsty Lewis, who also lives on Chepstow Road, said she heard the crash at about 9pm: “We were in bed and all we heard was a massive smash. It was like a brick going through a window.”

A MAN was seriously injured after colliding with a car on the Chepstow Road in Newport at about 9pm on Friday night.
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said a 34-year-old man was taken by paramedics to the Royal Gwent Hospital, where he is now stable.
The spokeswoman said enquiries are ongoing and that no arrests have been made.
Parts of Chepstow Road, Wharf Road and Eveswell Road were shut after the accident and reopened at about 1.15am on Saturday morning.
