25 years ago - Waste disposal firm Rechem were told that the local council would agree to liaison to sort out problems only if all their activities were declared.

A 'bizarre' brothel was uncovered in Paris employing bored housewives, well-paid businesswomen, a diplomat's wife and a 73-year-old grandmother.

Torfaen was facing "a worrying increase" in the rat population of around 25 per cent over two years.
