EASTER weekend, is of course, the most significant date in the Christian calendar, but over the years many other traditions have grown up around it.

An ideal time for getting away from it all, it has also now developed into the key date for launching myriad DIY or gardening projects.

We would like to throw a new idea into the mix.

And that is to reinforce a message we have long supported: shop and spend local.

So, if you are not getting away and you are not planning to re-decorate or launch a garden makeover, then why not take the time to either shop in your local independent shops or visit one of the countless shows, family days or attractions that we have in this area?

And, let’s face it, we are spoilt for choice.

Record Store Day is celebrated in many towns and cities across the UK every year as a way of boosting trade for independent record shops.

This year Newport is really getting behind it and a visit to the city is a must for music fans with lots in the way of special offers and live music to enjoy.

Then, of course, there are the numerous events celebrating Easter across most of Gwent’s major attractions.

Why not do something different while supporting local businesses and attractions?

What better way to celebrate Easter weekend than that?
