YOUNGSTERS are making an urban music video with artist Lady Leshurr in a Welsh Government-backed project designed to help parents access support services at Newport hubs.

The seven youths aged 11 to 12 have enlisted the help of Riverfront Theatre DJ Jamie Winchester to make the £5,000 video, which will be shot at locations in the city.

The youngsters are members of Gaers-Glas Youth Forum, which gives young people a voice on issues affecting their lives in the city.

They have spent six weeks recording the song with lyrics arranged by the Birmingham hip-hop artist Lady Leshurr, who has worked with dance duo Orbital.

Filming is to take place in the next few weeks.

DJ Winchester told the Argus: “They had lots of lyrics themselves and Lady Leshurr helped to arrange them.

“It’s a direct message telling a story from a parent’s point of view.

“They are great lyrics that spread the word there is help out there."

Maesglas Community Centre in Bideford Road, Newport, helped the youths secure a £5,000 tackling poverty grant from the Welsh Government to make the video.

The video is set to centre on the life of a mum who is having difficulty making ends meet, who then gets helps from Communities First.
