BLAENAU Gwent has announced details of events taking place across the county to mark the arrival of the Queen's Baton.

Details of the celebs taking part in the Welsh leg of the Queen's Baton Relay have been announced ahead of the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Set to touch down in Wales at Cardiff Airport on Saturday May 24, the Queen's Baton will come straight to Blaenau Gwent that day.

The first opportunity to see the baton will be at the Six Bells Pit Party, which starts at 11am and runs until 4pm.

There will be a Street Games bonanza at Ebbw Vale Lesiure Centre from 1pm to 5pm with an opening ceremony to greet the baton.

A procession will take place from Tredegar Shopping Centre to receive the baton at 5pm, where local sports people will carry the baton to Bedwellty Park.

A party will take place in the park from 4pm – 8pm.

It's been announced that Welsh stars such as BBC TV's Alex Jones, Olympic and Commonwealth medallist Iwan Thomas Welsh tenor Wynne Evans will be bearers of the baton as it travels through Wales.
