A NEWPORT student has seen her “dream come true” after girls’ clothes she designed have been launched by a famous store.

Stacey Clement, a third year Fashion Design student at the the University of South Wales’ city campus in Newport, won a national competition to design a new collection of clothes for George, and the clothes are on sale at 90 of their shops.

The 22-year-old, who is originally from Swansea, entered the competition as part of Graduate Fashion Week.

She submitted designs inspired for Liquorice Allsorts for six different clothes and was shortlisted in the children’s wear category and she was also highly commended at the Graduate Fashion Week last June.

She said: “Being part of Graduate Fashion Week, and having the chance to submit my work to the George competition, has been such a fantastic opportunity. I have been able to make lots of valuable industry contacts, and even managed to meet one of my idols, Mary Katrantzou, who told me she loved my designsThat meant everything to me.”

Her prize was a work placement at George’s design headquarters in Lancashire., where she refined her designs.

The final prototypes, which were inspired by Liquorice Allsorts, were produced last August.

She added: “It’s been a dream come true to go from seeing my initial sketches through to production, and then have the collection on display at so many stores. “I love seeing mums and their daughters looking at the clothes and saying how colourful and fun they are. It’s all a bit surreal to think that my designs are now reality.”
