MORE than 100 roller disco fans of all ages skated their socks off on Saturday as the Dragon Coast mega roller disco came to the Newport Centre.

The public session, attended by 120 people including children as young as four, was one of a number of regular sessions run by Dragon Coast Roller Skating, established two years ago.

For some who attended, the session brought back memories of the city’s iconic Maskells roller disco, explained one of the organisers Sharon Eckley.

“For the old school crowd to say they enjoy our sessions is quite a privilege,” she said.

“This was the biggest session we’ve run. We held one in Pontypool in February when we had 50 people still trying to get tickets even after we’d sold out.

“We have skates for people who don’t have their own and for anyone having lessons they receive a certificate recognised by the British Rollerskating Federation.”

Dragon Coast is looking for a permanent Newport venue and will be starting a council-approved toddler programme in September.
