GWENT Rainbows, Brownies, and Guides are being encouraged to get involved with this year’s Big Lunch.

As part of a national partnership with The Big Lunch, Girlguiding Cymru has vowed to encourage its members in Wales to join in the UK-wide annual get-together.

Girlguiding groups are being challenged to organise a Big Lunch with their local community and work towards achieving their Big Lunch Badge at the same time.

The Big Lunch badge will require members to plan their lunch in detail and talk about the benefits of bringing the community together.

The girls will then design and produce posters, invitations and decorations for their lunch as well as serving food and looking after their guests.

Lesley Matthews, deputy chief commissioner of Girlguiding Cymru said: “Brownie, Rainbow and Guide units are at the heart of the community for young girls across Wales.

“We are really excited to get involved in the Big Lunch this year.”

The Big Lunch, which falls on Sunday, June 1, is an initiative from the Eden Project. The idea is that it encourages neighbourhoods and communities across the UK to come together on one day to share a few hours of food, friendship and fun.

The deputy chief commissioner added: “The Big Lunch will be a lovely way for us to open up the doors of our Rainbow, Brownie and Guide units across Wales and reach out to everyone in our wider community network, both old and young.

“I am sure that the events will be the perfect opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and most importantly have a great time”.
