TWO Blaenau Gwent Community Support Officers were recognised for their work at Achievement and Recognition in the Community awards, by Nantyglo and Blaina Town Council.

The annual awards, now in their 14th year, are designed to commemorate and recognise individuals and organisations that have enhanced the lives of local people and the community.

More than 60 residents and borough and town mayors were at the ceremony in April and CSOs Joanne Robins and Craig Whistance, officers for Blaina, won the ‘Community Award’ for professional services to their community.

CSO Craig Whistance said: ‘It’s a shock to find out we had been nominated, let alone won, we just do our job. We work with the community and local residents and enjoy being involved in the events in our community.”

Councillor Michael James, mayor of Nantyglo and Blaina nominated the CSOs for the award.

He said: ‘Craig and Joanne are always a part of activities within the community, and put the community first with a smile in rain or snow.”
