THE release of the British Pathe newsreel archive on the internet has unearthed some wonderful footage of yesterday's Newport.
Newport's annual carnival in aid of the Royal Gwent Hospital was clearly big news in the 1920s and 30s, as Pathe news seemed to be there pretty much every year.
The first film from 1937, although voiced by someone with a pretty unconvincing Welsh accent, gives some great glimpses of Newport between the wars.
