THE South Wales Argus has been shortlisted for the Best Local/Regional News Website in this year’s UK Online Media Awards.

Argus editor Kevin Ward said: “This is the third successive year the Argus website has been nominated for this award, and comes after a year of record audiences – both for the site overall and for a number of individual stories – an increased use of live blogs incorporating Twitter and Facebook feeds, and initiatives such as our first use of live video.

“I’m delighted to see the hard work of our Digital Editor, Martin Wade, and everyone in the news and sports teams who play such a huge part in making our website so popular.”

The Argus’ rivals for the award are: BBC News Online East, BBC News Online East Midlands, Belfast Telegraph, Bristol Culture, Derby Telegraph, Edinburgh Evening News, ITV Central, Kent Online, Lancashire Telegraph (the only other Newsquest nominee), The Detail, and The Lincolnite.

The awards ceremony takes place on June 11 in London.
