THESE fiery scenes were captured by Argus photographer Michael Eden, who spent the weekend charting the progress of the Wye River Festival through Monmouthshire.

Sunday evening’s revelries ended with 500 people participating in a torch-lit procession down to the riverside in Llandogo.

Our photographer captured images of the first high-wire walk across the River Wye and the first Grand Assizes to be held in Monmouth’s Shire Hall since 1939—all part of the weekend of festivities in Monmouth and Llandogo, as part of the Wye Valley River Festival.

In Brockweir, on May 17, villagers will wind back the clock to a time when lawlessness reigned in the ship-building haven and in Tintern there will be an evening of music and ghostly goings on in the grounds of Tintern Abbey.

The open air concert includes performances by The Narth Singers and Caldicot Male Voice Choir, traditional Welsh harp music and Tintern ghost stories.

In Chepstow on Sunday, May 18, there will be street theatre, a pyrotechnics show, an illuminated flotilla, a choir and brass band.
