A SPECIAL entrant will be taking part in a wildlife trust’s fun run this Sunday.

Monmouth boy Ollie Bauert, six, has had to wear a full leg prosthesis all his life after he was born with an underdeveloped femur and a missing fibula.

But this weekend he will take part in Gwent Wildlife Trust’s Race for Wildlife one kilometre fun run for the second time in consecutive years – this time with a custom designed running blade.

Friends and family raised money to buy the blade for him and he will try it out at the race at Undy United Football Club.

His mum, Micaela Bauert, said: “The blade is going to make such an amazing difference to Ollie’s life.

“We are not expecting amazing things at the beginning. Ollie will only have had his blade for a couple of days before the Gwent Wildlife Trust’s Race for Wildlife but that is exactly why it is perfect – our first outing with it at a local fun run.”

Fundraising and marketing officer at the wildlife trust, Liesel Townley, said: “Gwent Wildlife Trust is absolutely delighted to be part of Ollie’s big adventure, with his new blade and his determined attitude, he is an inspiration to everyone.

“It highlights what the fun run is all about. It really is for everyone.”
