A MONMOUTHSHIRE councillor will call for her authority to be the first in Wales to pledge to tackle workplace discrimination against people with mental health difficulties.

Llanover councillor Sara Jones will propose the council adopts the Time to Change Wales pledge to tackle mental health stigma and discrimination at the council’s meeting tomorrow.

If councillors approve the plan, Monmouthshire council will commit itself to being active in tackling mental health stigma in the workplace.

Cllr Jones said: “With one in four of us experiencing mental illness at some point in our lives it is paramount that we work to try and break down the stigma that still exists and raise awareness in our communities.

“Stigma and discrimination affect people in all areas of life so we need organisations from all sectors of society to step up and play their part.”
