REGULARS at a Cwmbran pub are preparing to get on their bikes for St David’s Hospice Care.

Gareth and Jane Edwards, of the Queen Inn, Upper Cwmbran, are again staging a 37 mile charity bike ride from Brecon to their pub in Cwmbran.

This year’s event will be on Saturday, June 21 and takes some four to five hours to complete.

The pub landlord and landlady, who are celebrating 10 years at the pub in 2014, are hoping to attract even more riders than the 100 that took part in the event last year when £3,675.75 was raised for St Anne’s Hospice, part of St David’s Hospice Care.

Keen cyclist Mr Edwards, who stages a celebratory barbeque at the pub after the ride, said: “We had tremendous support from the charity riders last year despite the inclement weather.

“We are hopeful, perhaps with better conditions, that we will attract even more entrants this year.”

Mr Edwards said he would particularly like to thank Fox the Movers, of Cwmbran, for agreeing to transport bikes to Brecon, and Phil Anslow Buses for taking riders to the start and Ventair for their support of the event.

St David’s Hospice Care took over services provided by St Anne’s Hospice, in the grounds of St Joseph’s Hospital, in Malpas, Newport, last year.

Running the expanded service adds a further £1.2m to the annual running costs of the combined operations.

The entry fee for the ride is £20 with each entrant asked to raise at least £50 for the charity. To register for the Queen Inn bike ride call Gareth Edwards on 01633 484252 or email thequeeninn@hotmail.co.uk
