A TEXT message with the words “I think we just killed someone” was sent just minutes after a man was shot in Newport and called 999, a jury heard.

The jury at Newport Crown Court heard text messages and times of phone calls read out from a list of mobile phones, alleged by the prosecution to belong to four defendants, following the incident on Chepstow Road in Newport on September 3 last year.

Lewis Bridge, 23, of Nash Drive, Newport; Brogan Hooper, 21, of Feering Street, Newport; Ryan Battersby, 25, and Gary Rabjohns, 25, both of no fixed abode, are each charged with conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent against John Phillips, Shanice Francis and Michael Wall during the alleged shooting incident. Rabjohns is also accused with attempting to pervert the course of justice. All four deny the charges.

As their trial continued yesterday, the jury heard dozens of text messages and phone calls were made and received by mobile phones attributed to the defendants at around 11pm that night.

At 11.33pm, Mr Phillips called 999 stating he had been shot.

Two minutes later, a message was sent to a woman from a mobile phone attributed to Bridge, stating: “I think we just killed someone.” At three minutes past midnight, Bridge wrote: “One of the boys had beef with Cardiff boy. Cardiff boy comes down the estate and says ‘call your boy now, I’ll kill him’. I couldn’t get hold of him. My mate shot the car twice and hit their car off the road into a brick wall.”
