‘INSPIRATIONAL’ Newport head teacher Sue Jenkins will be remembered in a service in Cardiff next week.

Miss Jenkins, of St Joseph’s RC High School, tragically lost her battle to cancer earlier this week.

Since then tributes have continued to pour in in memory of the ‘amazing’ teacher she was.

Council leader, Cllr Bob Bright said: “Sue was an outstanding head teacher who rightly won the respect of people both inside and outside education."

“I know she will be sorely missed by her family, friends, pupils and colleagues, including those at Newport City Council who were fortunate enough to know and work with her.

“Sue made a difference to the lives of so many young people and I am sure her invaluable legacy will live on for years to come through her dedicated colleagues at St Joseph’s RC High School.”

Her funeral will be held at St Peter’s RC Church in Cardiff at 10am on May 23 with hundreds expected to attend.

The school will be closed that day to allow the ‘St Joseph’s family’ to pay their respects to the much-loved head teacher.

The service will be followed by committal at The Wenallt Chapel, Thornhill Crematorium, Cardiff, and donations for Velindre Hospital are being sought instead of flowers.

In accordance with Sue’s wishes, Mourners are invited to wear an item of pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
