ORGANISERS of a dalmatian bike ride on June 7 are hoping to raise a whopping £25,000 for Newport-based St David's Hospice Care.

The ride, which has sold out and is in its third year, will be between Brecon and Caerleon, with riders meeting on June 7 between 8am and 9.30am for registration at Caerleon amphitheatre car park, with coaches leaving at 9.30am sharp for Brecon - not at Kwik Fit in Clarence Place as incorrectly stated in the Argus at the weekend.

Car parking will be available at Caerleon Comprehensive School from 8am and there will also be an overflow car park at Caerleon Amphitheatre once the school car park is full.

Anyone finding their own way to Brecon is asked to email: Tania.ansell@stdavidshospicecare.org to avoid a delay in registering as this will be done at Caerleon

Safety briefings will be held on the coaches, and riders will set off in a naturally staggered start as the bikes are taken off the coaches, organiser Dave Rees said.

Mr Rees said: "The ride has raised £28,000 in the past two years and our target for this year is £25,000.

"While we are fully booked for riders, we are looking for marshalls. Anyone interested can contact the fundraising department of St David's Hospice Care."

There will be facepainting available for those who want a dalmatian nose, and riders are being encouraged to wear spotty outfits. Please remember to wear your safety helmet. T shirts previously ordered by the riders are currently available for collection at the hospice in Harding Avenue in Malpas or can be collected at registration

There will be a barbecue from 3pm served in the grounds of The Priory for all the hungry dalmatians for a small donation of £1 per dalmatian/friend/family. The bar will also be available for drinks along with an ice cream cart, and real life Dalmatian dogs and of course a “Cruella De Ville”

The evening Dalmatian Party will start at 7:30pm at the St Julian’s Inn, Caerleon Road, Newport. NP18 1QA. We have live music from “Red Raw”, Buffet, DJ, Raffle and plenty of laughs lined up.

The hospice needs to raise funds to provide its free specialist care service to 3,500 patients every year.

You can help by texting DALM14 £10 to 70070 to donate to St David’s Hospice Care.

Peak Performance Sports Therapy is supporting the Dalmatian Bike Ride this year. They will be based at the Priory, Caerleon for any post cycle sports massage or injury advice for a minimal charge of £3, all of which is donated to St David’s Hospice Care.
