THERE were emotional scenes in Cwmbran yesterday, with the funeral of tragic Pontypool mum Caroline Howarth.

Five hundred people attended the service to say their last farewells to the 24-year-old, who died after her heart stopped as she gave birth to daughter Hallie-Rose.

The tragedy happened after Mrs Howarth suffered a severe asthma attack during labour, which led to a cardiac arrest.

The community was left shocked by her death, and heartbroken for her husband, Lee. But they have rallied around him with some incredible fundraising efforts, with people across the area eager to do whatever they can to help.

They realise the huge task in front of him, of raising his little girl alone while dealing with his own grief.

But they have also been inspired by his strength, and the message that he will never let Hallie-Rose forget her mum.

Mr Howarth has already set about creating a loving home for his daughter.

And he put on an inspirational display of his love for Caroline in a touching tribute to her during the funeral at Victory Church.

Hallie-Rose has no choice but to be brought up without her mum. But in losing a mother and a wife, she and her dad have gained a community-sized family which we are sure will offer them love and support throughout the years ahead.
