A DIGITAL project that aims to tell the story of Torfaen during the First World War is underway thanks to a boost from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Torfaen at War: Digital Stories and Expressions explores the impact of the First World War on the people of Torfaen.

There will be an event in Pontypool Town Centre today and again at the Cwmbran Big Event on Saturday, June 14, where members of the public can bring in photographs, letters, objects or stories to be shared and examined by professionals which may be used in the final exhibition.

The project team will work with history societies, schools, youth groups, residential homes and individuals, bringing people together to share memories of the war years.

These will be captured in a film and an exhibition that will be launched during the Torfaen Summer of Heritage, August 1-10, at the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre, and will tour Torfaen for the next four years. The community heritage development officer, Ashleigh Taylor, said: “We hope this project is the first of many which will look at how the war shaped our local communities.

“We are hoping that lots of people will come forward to share their stories, photos and letters that they may have had hidden away.”
